Asphalt Shingles:
Asphalt shingles are the most commonly used type of shingle. They're reinforced with fiber glass or an organic material, such as paper, wood fiber etc, and range in durability from 20 to 30 years for the ordinary asphalt shingle (three tab). Laminated shingles are usually made with asphalt but differ from typical asphalt (three tab) in design. They are designed to add character, color and depth to the roof. They are made of multiple, staggered layers of material, with a range of durablity from 25 to 50 years. They add a special detail to the roof, and have gained in popularity in the last several years.
Laminate shingles are much thicker than three tab shingles, from a distance, some types of high quality laminated shingles give the look of an expensive slate or shake covered roof by incorporating angled or rounded tabs and shadow lines.
